The EMS Annual Meeting brings together experts from around the world to exchange insights on meteorology, climatology, and atmospheric sciences. Reuniwatt will be presenting a poster contribution focusing on the evaluation of ensemble prediction systems for solar irradiance forecasting in Germany.<\/p>\n
Accurate solar irradiance forecasting is critical for optimizing solar energy production and improving the integration of renewable energy into power grids. In this context, Reuniwatt\u2019s latest study evaluates the performance of different operational ensemble prediction systems to better understand their reliability in forecasting global horizontal irradiance (GHI). Using observational GHI data from 25 Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) sites, the evaluation focuses on forecast quality metrics such as rank histograms and the continuous ranked probability score.\u00a0Preliminary results show that while all models deliver similar quality, our\u00a0findings underline the need for post-processing methods and model calibration to improve forecast reliability in solar energy applications.
