The French government is currently in consultation on a bill intended to accelerate production of renewable energy, specifically solar power and offshore wind energy. The French government\u2019s objective is to reach 40 gigawatts (GW) of installed offshore capacity by 2050 (roughly 50 wind farms). French wind energy in numbers<\/h3>\n
\n\u2022 French wind farms had a capacity of 20.0 gigawatts (GW), as of 30 th June 2022.
\n\u2022 wind power generation amounted to 36.8 TWh in 2021 – representing 7.8% of French electricity consumption.
\n\u2022 it is the 2nd largest source of renewable electricity generation (after hydro).
\n\u2022 a target of 2.4 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2023 has been set, with expectations for 5 GW by 2028.
\n\u2022 by 2030, France plans to operate 17 offshore wind farms: more than 700 turbines will be spread across the English Channel, the Atlantic coast and in the Mediterranean. The capacity of offshore wind power is expected to reach 10 GW, versus an estimated potential of 80 GW for onshore turbines and 140 GW for \u2018floating\u2019 turbines.<\/p>\n
