L’irradiation horizontale globale (GHI) ou irradiation solaire de surface (SSI) est un paramètre météorologique et climatique clé qui détermine les interactions entre la surface terrestre et l’atmosphère, y compris les processus radiatifs, hydrologiques et autres processus de la surface terrestre. Le GHI peut fluctuer fortement en raison du passage des nuages. Par conséquent, la prévision de la couverture nuageuse à l’échelle de l’heure est utile pour la gestion de l’énergie solaire et pour toute autre application nécessitant des informations sur la couverture nuageuse à l’échelle locale. Reuniwatt vise à faire progresser l’état de l’art dans le domaine de l’estimation et de la prévision globale du GHI par satellite et de la prévision de la couverture nuageuse.

Contrairement aux imageurs de ciel qui fonctionnent dans le domaine visible, l’imageur de ciel IR breveté de Reuniwatt, Sky InSight™, permet d’observer la couverture nuageuse 24 heures sur 24, 7 jours sur 7, avec une précision stable et sans précédent. L’observation et la prévision de la couverture nuageuse, de jour comme de nuit, sont utiles pour plusieurs applications de recherche, telles que la modélisation météorologique à petite échelle, les relevés à long terme des processus locaux pour les études sur le changement climatique ou les alertes sur les événements du ciel. En fonction des conditions météorologiques, la production d’électricité d’une centrale photovoltaïque (PV) est sujette à une forte variabilité et à des événements de rampe causés par le passage des nuages. La prévision de la production photovoltaïque à l’échelle minimale est un outil utile aux opérateurs de réseaux pour la gestion des centrales électriques. Les imageurs du ciel fonctionnant dans le spectre visible permettent de prévoir pendant la journée le rayonnement solaire, la production photovoltaïque et les événements de rampe. Nous évaluons les prévisions effectuées à l’aide de la SkyCam Vision de Reuniwatt, un imageur tout ciel qui observe les nuages et fournit des prévisions d’irradiance solaire utilisées pour le contrôle des centrales. Par exemple, le contrôle de l’allumage des groupes électrogènes diesel peut maximiser les économies de carburant grâce à l’intégration des prévisions dans les systèmes de gestion de l’énergie des centrales hybrides PV-Diesel.

De nombreuses applications sociétales et de recherche, telles que l’évaluation et la prévision du rayonnement solaire à la surface de la terre, nécessitent des prévisions précises de la nébulosité à court terme, à l’échelle du kilomètre et de l’heure. Les modèles de prévision numérique du temps (PNT) à aire limitée peuvent fournir de telles prévisions en simulant les nuages à des résolutions spatiales et temporelles élevées. Ces simulations permettent donc d’améliorer les prévisions d’énergie solaire et éolienne pour la journée. Cependant, la performance des prévisions au cours des 24-48 premières heures est fortement influencée par la précision des analyses des nuages et de la thermodynamique dans les conditions initiales. Notre objectif est d’améliorer les prévisions de la couverture nuageuse basées sur la PNT, en se concentrant sur les modèles à aire limitée et l’assimilation des données nuageuses.
