26 French companies will showcase expertise, innovations and technologies for the global wind energy industry on the French Pavilion in Hall B6 on stands B6.127, B6.126 and B6.124 at WindEnergy Hamburg.
A blow-by-blow of the French Pavilion
France boasts a strong offering across the wind energy sector through high added value products, including technology to automate infrastructure inspection and monitoring, tools for forecasting, analysis, and monitoring of meteorological and production data. The diversity of French companies’ specialties will be showcased on the French pavilion with:
• engineering firms
• component and equipment manufacturers
• suppliers of solutions for performance optimisation in wind turbine operation and maintenance
• onshore and offshore wind farm developers
Winds of change in the France’s energy sector
Energy supply and production is an omnipresent headline in 2022. The French government is currently in consultation on a bill intended to accelerate production of renewable energy, specifically solar power and offshore wind energy. The French government’s objective is to reach 40 gigawatts (GW) of installed offshore capacity by 2050 (roughly 50 wind farms). With wind power due to play a major role in reducing carbon emissions, all eyes will be turned to the French exhibitors in Hamburg.
French wind energy in numbers
France has the 2nd largest offshore wind energy potential in Europe after the UK, in numbers:
• French wind farms had a capacity of 20.0 gigawatts (GW), as of 30 th June 2022.
• wind power generation amounted to 36.8 TWh in 2021 – representing 7.8% of French electricity consumption.
• it is the 2nd largest source of renewable electricity generation (after hydro).
• a target of 2.4 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2023 has been set, with expectations for 5 GW by 2028.
• by 2030, France plans to operate 17 offshore wind farms: more than 700 turbines will be spread across the English Channel, the Atlantic coast and in the Mediterranean. The capacity of offshore wind power is expected to reach 10 GW, versus an estimated potential of 80 GW for onshore turbines and 140 GW for ‘floating’ turbines.
WindEnergy Hamburg 2022 trade fair will provide a platform for France to showcase the expertise of French companies in the sector and to engage in dialogue with international industrial partners.
