A promising partnership in renewable energy

Starting this August, Reuniwatt will intensify their activities in Australia. TotalEnergies supports Reuniwatt in its international development. Reuniwatt: a pioneer in weather forecasting for renewable energies for 15 years

Founded by Nicolas Schmutz in La Réunion in 2010, Reuniwatt offers cutting-edge solutions for high-resolution observation and forecasting of cloud cover and solar radiation. Initially applied to renewable energies (ENR), the company has gradually deployed its solutions in the fields of Atmospheric Sciences, Defense and Space. It also has offices in Paris and Toulouse. Thanks to substantial R&D efforts, Reuniwatt is recognized for its technological advances, and has become a key player with regards to innovation in the ENR sector.
In total, the company has registered 7 patents, invested over 400,000 hours in R&D and published over 100 scientific papers. The company has also been awarded the French Tech 120 prize for two consecutive years (2020/2021). In concrete terms, its solutions make it possible to balance power grid management using forecasting to cope with intermittent energy production, to contribute to a better understanding of climate evolution through atmospheric sciences, and to improve data transmission between satellites and the Earth.

A strategic partnership with TotalEnergies to develop Reuniwatt internationally

A few weeks from now, Pierre Arnal, who recently joined the company, will be representing Reuniwatt in Australia, working as a VIE at TotalEnergies’ Melbourne subsidiary.

Australia: a strategic market for Reuniwatt

Australia offers a stable environment conducive to business development and large-scale infrastructure. The country has embarked on a policy of energy transition, and is gradually moving away from coal and deploying renewable energy on a massive scale. However, the variable nature of renewable energies poses particular challenges. In 2016, a number of incidents highlighted the importance of of forecasting electricity production in order to plan supplies effectively. The country is now a strict obligation to plan power generation in order to mitigate the risks of intermittency.
What sets Reuniwatt apart is its ability to meet this requirement with innovative solutions adapted to the specific characteristics of the Australian grid, in particular the obligation to provide forecasts in very short time steps. The company’s ambition is also to establish links with research organizations, particularly in the space sector, thus strengthening its local presence and expertise. To achieve this, it was essential for Reuniwatt to strengthen its local local presence. The new office in Melbourne, supported by TotalEnergies, will help them establish a firm foothold in the region and contribute to the Australian energy ecosystem.
